Abstract

(The Society of Air-conditioning and Refrigerating Engineering of Korea, SAREK)와 정책연구용역을 진행하는 등 환경시설에서의 레지오넬라 관리를 위해 관련 부처 및 전문학회와의 지속적인 협력을 추진해 나갈 예정이다.

Abstract

Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) is overseeing comprehensive management of environmental water facilities inspections in various multi-use facilities to prevent legionellosis. In 2021, environmental inspections were planned for 3,956 facilities nationwide, but inspections were carried out in 2,731 facilities (75.9%). An additional 425 facilities were inspected compared to the 2,306 inspected in 2020. The overall inspection completion rate was 75.9%, with notably high inspection rates observed in Ulsan (107.4%) and Sejong (100%).
Analyzing the environmental inspection results reported through the Integrated Disease Control and Management System, legionella bacteria were detected in 447 facilities (16.4%) nationwide. Among multi-use facilities, higher detection rates were observed in hot springs, Korean saunas, tertiary general hospitals, large public baths, and general hospitals compared to the overall detection rate.
The Division of Infectious Disease Control at the KDCA aims to develop domestic strategies for the prevention and systematic management of Legionnaire's disease. Our objective is to collaborate with The Society of Air-conditioning and Refrigerating Engineering of Korea (SAREK) to establish facility-specific Legionella management guidelines and conduct policy research services. We intend to pursue continuous cooperation with relevant government departments and professional societies to enhance the management of Legionella in environmental facilities.
